Announcing October 2005 winner
Luke Wullenwaber Scholarship Winner
-----------------------------------------------
I'm please to announce that Carlos Rusnak from San Luis Obispo, California is the October, 2005 winner of the Luke C. Wullenwaber TFT Memorial Scholarship.
Here's what Carlos wrote in his note to me:
------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Larkin:
I am writing to apply for the Captain Wullenwaber scholarship for Target-Focus Training or materials. I read about the scholarship on the Target-Focus Training website.
About myself: I was going to serve society, like Captain Wullenwaber, through Computer Engineering. During my studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, I became disabled and could not finish my degree. I am now 39 years old and recovering.
I now work helping the severely mentally ill. I do homeless outreach in San Luis Obispo, California. I work with homeless people, some who have been released from the Atascadero State Hospital for the criminally insane and the California Men’s Colony Prison. Consequently, I sometimes work with the police. Your Target-Focus Training would help me approach the homeless with more confidence.
I earn just enough to get by. I enjoy the martial arts. I studied Aikido for three months, but do not have enough knowledge in this art for practical self defense. I enjoyed reading the article on your Target-Focus Training class in Black Belt magazine. I would like to take the class but cannot afford it. The training would be invaluable in my work with the homeless and mentally ill.
I read the eulogy for Captain Wullenwaber that was linked on the Target-Focus Training website. He achieved much in his twenty five years of life.
Sincerely,
Carlos Rusnak
