For years I opened each live training class with 30-45 minutes of lecture about what everyone could expect.

I’d talk about how this stuff wasn’t pretty but it was the only way to learn it. And after a couple morning sessions on the mats everyone pretty much understood the tone of things and was doing well.

Then I did something different.

For one class, I had everyone gather ’round as I projected several video clips on the wall and discussed what they were seeing.

No question… these were difficult to watch. Much of what I showed was actual footage of prison violence. Including people getting killed.

And it probably doesn’t surprise you that after that first class watched the videos and listened to my commentary… you could literally hear a pin drop.

But as people got up to begin the mat work every one of them had a totally focused, get-down-to-business demeanor about them I’d not seen before.

And by noon this class was already at a point the other classes hadn’t reached until much later in the first day.

Available for the first time

While the videos are now a permanent part of each class I’ve never made them generally available.

But after each class it seemed someone always mentioned that they’d like to have seen these prior to class, that it really cements an understanding of the nature of violence you so often hear us talking about.

So I’ve decided to go ahead and release one of the videos today.

It’s actually a longer clip than I have time to show in class. The added portion lets you hear some of the actual comments from one of the attackers. It’s pretty sobering.

I’ve uploaded the video to our blog so you’ll want to check it out there: http://targetfocustraining.com/blog

Again, it’s graphic and certainly not for kids. Be forewarned.

PS. Speaking of training… Boston is sold out. We’ll take a couple standbys but that’s it.

If you’re in the northeast and missed on Boston the only other class we’ll be offering in 2009 in this general area is in New York City, September 12-13.

You’ll want to click the link below to register before this one’s gone, too.
